Phil's primary research interests surround energetic particle transport and confinement in magnetic confinement devices. His work spans both experimental and computational modeling of fast ion effects with emphasis on fast ion diagnostics. Prior to becoming a staff research physicist, Phil was an associate research physicist at PPPL. He obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in physics and his bachelor's of science in physics and mathematics from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor.
