Before Publication or Public Presentation — and in accordance with contractual requirements — the following items must be reviewed by PPPL management and submitted to the Department of Energy:

- Posters/Presentations/Abstracts (ONLY if patentable material is referenced or presented).
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS/PRESENTERS:
I. Obtain Review and Approval
Authors may submit draft publications for Publication and Patent Clearance here using a new, online form. (link is external) Department Heads review and approve each draft publication. The Publications Office files each manuscript for reporting purposes. Contact Publications@pppl.gov (link sends e-mail) with questions or concerns.
II. Submit Paper/Presentation
A. Submit this DOE Copyright Notice with the manuscript or presentation (it does not have to be part of the paper):
DOE Copyright Notice and Acknowledgment:B. Submit the manuscript/presentation to the publisher. (download the Publication Submittal Cover Page) (link is external)
“Notice: This manuscript is based upon work supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science, Office of Fusion Energy Sciences, and has been authored by Princeton University under Contract Number DE-AC02-09CH11466 with the U.S. Department of Energy. The publisher, by accepting the article for publication acknowledges, that the United States Government retains a non-exclusive, paid-up, irrevocable, world-wide license to publish or reproduce the published form of this manuscript, or allow others to do so, for United States Government purposes.”
Journal and Publisher Authentication - If you would like to authenticate a request to publish in a new or lesser-known journal, check the following websites:
1. Check that the publisher is a member of OASPA:
2. Check that the journal is in DOAJ:
If the PUBLISHER is not listed as a member of OASPA and/or the JOURNAL is not in the DOAJ database, it may be a predatory or highly suspicious journal, and may not meet our institutional standards for publishing.
If you have questions or would like assistance in validating a journal/publisher, please contact Laurie Bagley at email@example.com(link sends e-mail) or 609-243-2425.
C. Instruct the publisher to submit invoices to PPPL Accounting for payment.
III. Paper undergoes peer-review process
Not every article submitted will be accepted for publication. The articles that are eventually accepted for publication are first reviewed by “peer-review” groups and editors. The first author of the paper will receive notes, comments, and edits. The timeframe and number of drafts necessary for this process varies by publisher.
IV. Publisher confirms submission as Peer-Reviewed Accepted Manuscript (PRAM)
The publisher will share a final, accepted version of your manuscript before formatting and typesetting occurs. This final version of the paper is commonly called the “peer-reviewed accepted manuscript" (PRAM), but is not always labeled as such by the publisher. The first PPPL author must submit the PRAM to the Publications Office: Click here to complete the FORM(link is external).
V. Follow-up of Publication and Related Charges, Invoices, and Payments
If you receive any invoices, obtain the proper cost center charge number and cost center approval from your Department/Division Head or Planning & Control (P&C Officer), and submit the invoice to PPPL Accounting for payment.
