Instructions for Remotely Viewing PPPL Meetings
Remote collaborators are able to "attend" PPPL meetings by
"tuning in" on the internet.
The audio and video from meetings are be available in TWO ways:
Note: Because of limited ports and bandwidth, if you are at PPPL, please
attend the meeting in person. NO PPPL connections please!
MBone
The highest quality production will be available to those collaborators
who have MBone tools available. Use the session director tool (sdr under UNIX) to locate
the advertised PPPL session.
For those who are not MBone capable, but would like to learn more about
it, have your systems administrator see: http://www.mbone.com/techinfo or contact Steve Davis at sdavis@pppl.gov.
As of Dec 18th, 1996, the current versions of the mbone tools which will be used for PPPL meeting broadcasts are:
sdr 2.2a23 see:
ftp://cs.ucl.ac.uk/mice/videoconference/sdr
vat 4.0b2 see:
ftp://ftp.ee.lbl.gov/conferencing/vat/alpha-test
vic 2.8 see:
ftp://ftp.ee.lbl.gov/conferencing/vic
GA, LLNL, MIT, and ORNL are known to have MBone capability.
At GA - Contact Bill McCarg or Kristi Keith
At LLNL - Contact Jeff Moeller or Tom Casper
At MIT - Contact Martin Greenwald
At ORNL - Contact Dave Greenwood
MBone for the Macintosh
MBone is now available in alpha version for the Macintosh. As of this update, the lastest version is 1.0a6a. It can be found at
http://qtc.quicktime.apple.com/qttv/qttv.rtp.html. This is an alpha version and you should discuss the use of this with your network people. At a minimum, please make them aware you are experimenting with it.
MBone for Windows 95 and Windows NT
The MBone tools have been ported to run on Windows 95
and Windows NT!
see
http://www.research.microsoft.com/research/BARC/mbone
Contact you're network administrator before you begin using this one also.
CU-SeeMe
The meeting will also be made available to Cu-SeeMe users. Simply connect
to our reflector at 198.35.12.22 (garth.pppl.gov - not the reflector for the TFTR
control room)
For those who are not Cu-SeeMe capable, but would like to learn more about
it, and become capable, see: http://cu-seeme.cornell.edu/Welcome.html
or ftp://gated.cornell.edu:/pub/video/
MAVEN
If you are only interested in the audio from the meeting, a program called
Maven is available for the Macintosh from:
ftp://uiarchive.cso.uiuc.edu/pub/systems/mac/info-mac/comm/tcp/maven-20d37.hqx
.
Just use it to connect to our reflector garth.pppl.gov (198.35.12.22).
Call in Questions
Please check the meeting anouncements for a phone number or other instructions. You may be able to break in with a question using the MBone vat tool, but this can not always be guaranteed.
