Snowmass 2002 Fusion Energy Sciences Summer Study

Office and Computer Services



The listing below provides the current plans to support the Fusion Energy Sciences Summer Study. If there is some needed hardware or software that is not identified on the listing, please contact John DeLooper (jdeloope@pppl.gov).

Location:
The Fusion Energy Sciences Summer Study Office will be located in the Incline Ski Shop (located in the Village Mall). Note: This is tentative -- location may be changed to another shop near the Incline.

Hours of Operation:
The office will officially open at noon on Sunday, July 7, and close at noon on Friday, July 19. During this time frame, the office will be open 24 hours a day.

Support Personnel:
  • A security guard will staff the office from 6 PM to 6 AM.
  • Secretarial support will be available from 9 AM to 5 PM (copying, etc.).
  • Computer Expert help will be available from 10 AM to 7 PM (hours will be adjusted as need develops).

Support Equipment:
  • High speed copier
  • Fax machine
  • Phones
  • General office supplies (staplers, scissors, clips, etc.)

Computer Hardware (all networked to the Internet):
  • 5 Macintosh platforms
  • 5 PC platforms
  • 20 additional E-net stations for individuals to hook to the network with laptop computers
  • 2 B&W laser jet printers
  • 1 Tektronix Phaser color printer (with paper and transparency trays)
  • 1 Scanner
  • 1 Snap Server (report sections, public folders to support file exchange)
Wireless Systems:
The current plan is to have units in the following locations:
  • Snowmass Fusion Energy Sciences Summer Study Office
  • Snowmass Convention Center
  • Stonebridge Inn
  • Crestwood (may not be connected to web -- based on services available)
  • Top of the Village (may not be connected to web -- based on services available)
More units may be added -- a request to borrow units from the various laboratories has been issued to Laboratory Directors.

Software:
Each computer platform in the office will have the latest edition of Eudora Pro, Microsoft Office, Netscape Communicator, Claris Draw, Internet Explorer; Norton Anti-virus, NCSA Telnet, and X-terminal emulation (Exodus on Mac, Exceed on PC); Windows 2000 on PC's and MAC OS 9.22 on Mac's.

Audio/Visual Support:
The office will have four LCD projectors available for use in the various meetings. All other audiovisual equipment will be rented and supplied as needed (overhead projectors, flip charts, screens, etc.).

All requests for A/V equipment should be made known as soon as possible (ideally before the meeting but in no case less than 24 hours before required) to John DeLooper (jdeloope@pppl.gov) so that we make sure the right hardware is available when required
