PPPL's Invention Disclosure Filing Procedure
  1. Download and complete both invention disclosure forms.
  2. Submit both forms, signed by all inventors, along with any attachments to Reports and Publications, Technical Information, MS38.
  3. Upon receipt of signed and completed forms, the office of Technical Information solicits a qualified internal reviewer.
  4. Once reviewed and signed by the Reviewer, the disclosure is submitted to Princeton University, Office of Patents and Licensing.

  • List the full names of all inventors.
  • List the title or position of each inventor.
  • List the employer (home institution) of each inventor.
  • List the complete permanent (home) address of each inventor.
Section B. Title of Invention
  • State the complete title of the invention.
Section C. Description of Invention
  • State a brief but informative abstract of the invention, referencing specifications, drawings or photos (identify and attach).
Section D. Dates and Places of Invention
  • Complete this section as appropriate.
Sections E. through K.
  • Name all existing reports, publications, papers, or presentations pertaining to the invention.

    • What are possible uses for the invention?
    • In addition to immediate applications, are there any other uses that might be realized in the future?
  4. Novelty
    • Pick out and expand on novel and unusual features.
    • How does the invention differ from present technologies currently being used in industry?
    • What problems does it solve, or what advantage does it possess?
  5. Method of Synthesis, Assembly, or Process
    • If the invention is a composition of matter, a device, or a product, how is it made?
    • If the invention is a process, what are the steps involved?
  6. Limitations
    • Does this invention possess disadvantages or limitations?
    • Can they be overcome? How?
  7. Experimental Verification
    • Have you tested the invention experimentally? (If yes, describe.)
    • Have you constructed a prototype, model, or test samples that are available for examination? (If yes, describe.)
  8. Publications
    • Have you described the invention in a publication or an oral presentation?
    • What was the date of the publication or presentation?
    • Was it described in specific or general fashion?
    • Include abstracts of talks, news stories, etc. and copies of any publications, label and collectively as Attachment A (attach)
    • Any planned future publications or public disclosure? (If yes include a date when the publication will be mailed for distribution and the date any public disclosure.)
    • If there are attachments, label as Attachment B.
  9. References
    • Are there inventions or publications by others that are related to this invention? (List on a separate sheet, and attach copies if available. Label this list and attach collectively as Attachment C.)
  10. Sponsorship
    • Was the work that led to the invention sponsored?
    • List sponsors below and attach copies of contracts or grant agreements if available. Label collectively as Attachment D.
