Patent clearance prior to public presentation or publication is a DOE requirement as stated in DOE Contract DE-AC02-76CH03073. This Includes:
- Conference papers
- Research papers
- Theses
- Journal article papers
- *Poster presentations/abstracts
(* ONLY if patentable material is referenced or presented)
PPPL Reports:
- Download the Patent Clearance and Subject Indexing Forms
- Author completes the Patent Clearance form with all information available
- Author signs the form and forwards the form and a printout of the manuscript to department or division head of the cost center related to the work
- Division/department head reviews the manuscript, signs the patent clearance form (if approved), and returns it to the author
- Author forwards the signed form and a print out of the paper to the P&R Office, LSB 374, MS38
- Author e-mails a pdf of the manuscript to the Publication Officer
Non-PPPL Reports:
If an author does not wish the paper to be issued as a PPPL Report, the process is the same as above, with a notation on the Patent Clearance Form.

Subject Indexing Form
No publication or reprint charges can be authorized for payment by PPPL accounting without patent clearance.
Forward all invoices, page charge questionnaire forms, and related correspondence to the Publications Officer via e-mail or interoffice to MS38. To expedite approval and payment, include the manuscript title, number, editor code, number of color figures approved for print, and number of reprints requested (if any).
Forward signed copyright forms to P&R, MS38. The Publications Officer will review the form, obtain any additional signatures required, and submit it to the publisher. Documentation of submission to the publisher and a copy of the completed form will be filed with the PPPL Report patent clearance.
