The successful candidate will develop theory and/or simulation capabilities pertaining to understanding, avoidance, and mitigating disruptions in tokamaks.

The successful candidate will be actively involved in the development of theory and simulation capabilities needed for understanding, avoidance, and mitigating disruptions in tokamaks. These capabilities include, but are not limited to, the understanding and avoidance of MHD instabilities that cause disruptions, the generation of runaway electrons and the stability of runaway electron beams, and the understanding and control of current and thermal quench. In addition, the candidate will be expected to lead modeling efforts utilizing analytical tools and computer simulation codes. The tokamak configurations that the candidate will be expected to investigate could include NSTX-U, DIII-D, JET, and ITER.

Applicant should possess a Ph.D. in plasma physics. The applicant should have a strong background in plasma theory and simulation. Experience in and knowledge of tokamak physics is desirable.
