This invention is intended to increase the electric field gradient that can be reliably sustained in any electrostatic accelerator, and also to reduce the time required to obtain reliable operation of the accelerator. This should result in the ability to accelerate higher current densities of ions, charged clumps of atoms, charged powder, or charged droplets of liquid, paint, or fuel, and to do it with greater reliability and in shorter acceleration distances than is currently possible. It should enhance the performance and reliability of any device using electrostatic acceleration to propel a process stream.
