COLLOQUIUM: The Electrical System of the Heart
The electrical system of the heart is uniquely designed to promote organization and prevent disorder. Despite this, many people suffer from arrhythmias. Atrial fibrillation affects almost 5 million Americans and sudden cardiac death, in part caused by ventricular arrhythmias, is the leading cause of mortality in industrialized nations. We will discuss the electrical system of the heart, how it can be thwarted to produce arrhythmias and the field of cardiac electrophysiology, which is the study and treatment of arrhythmias.
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory 2017-2018 Colloquium Committee is comprised of the following people. Please feel free to contact them by e-mail regarding any possible speakers or topics for future colloquia.
