The primary objective of this meeting is to have all physicists, computer scientists, and applied mathematicians involved in the Center for Plasma Edge Simulation (CPES) Center to gather at a single location, present latest research results, and discuss future directions for CPES.  This meeting provides a forum for close interactions between the applied mathematics/computer science communities with the physics community, which is deemed crucial for the success of the CPES project . As specified in its funding proposal, the CPES team meets twice a year; once in the spring and once in the fall.

It is expected that this meeting will impact future simulations of edge physics with gyrokinetic and MHD codes. It will also potentially impact future research directions in high performance computing on extreme scale platforms, and applied mathematics developments in coupling of disparate codes. It is widely recognized that these areas will be important in the Fusion Simulation Program (FSP).  This will also be the first CPES project meeting convened at PPPL.  The PPPL research staff will not only learn more about the physics being studied within CPES, but also about the applied mathematics and computer science being utilized.  As a result, they will be better prepared for participation in or collaboration with the FSP.
