 PPPL Fire Engine
PPPL Fire Engine

Nineteen emergency personnel provide around-the-clock site protection at PPPL. All have been cross trained as firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and security officers. A complement of emergency vehicles including two fire engines, a rescue vehicle, an ambulance, and a command vehicle, are maintained on site. PPPL's two fire engines are pumpers that can pump up to 1,500 gallons per minute. In addition, one is specially equipped with an on-board foam system for fighting flammable liquid fires, such as gasoline or oil fires.

PPPL emergency personnel provide back-up services to neighboring communities. In 1996, PPPL staff assisted other firefighters during the massive oil tank fire at the Shell Oil storage facility in Woodbridge, New Jersey.
