Nonneutral Plasma Experiments
The study of nonneutral plasmas at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is funded by the Office of Naval Research. Unlike ordinary plasmas which contain equal numbers of positively and negatively charged particles, nonneutral plasmas are collections of charged particles in which there is no overall charge neutrality. Experiments at PPPL are performed on a Malmberg-Penning trap called the Electron Diffusion Gauge Experiment. Theoretical and experimental research is carried out in critical problem areas related to the equilibrium, stability, and nonlinear properties of these plasmas.
