| C-site Motor Generators |
| The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory has two motor generator (MGs) facilities that provide power to the Laboratory's experimental devices. The C-site MGs became operational in 1961 and provided power for the research devices at C-site. The D-site MGs became operational when the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor came on-line in 1982 and are now being used to power the National Spherical Torus Experiment. During pulsed operations, the C-site MGs produce enough power to run 45,000 toasters or light 675,000 75-watt light bulbs; the D-site MGs could run 800,000 toasters or light 12,000,000 light bulbs. MGs store energy to be used during experimental operations and gradually build the energy level back up after it is depleted. Hence, there is no effect on the public electrical system. |
